Back-Up Your Data, Probably Sick of Hearing It, Too Bad

Question: Why do computer Guys always nag about backing up data?

Answer: Because there are more ways to lose data then there are ways to retrieve it.

And here is one of those reasons. Many hard drives platters (where you data is stored) are made of a glass and ceramic type compound. Generally they are pretty hardy but drop one and all heck could break lo0se. In fact the disc can become loose. Restart the computer and the platter can destroy itself. They rotate at a very high RPM so a little off balance can wreck a drive.

Hard Drive Shakes Like a Babies Rattle

Today we broke the news to a young fellow that he has lost a years worth of school assignments. Including the one that is due in 3 days.

His drive is shattered. There are no normal methods of data recovery that will work. If he had spent ½ hour last week backing up his important data he would be back in business.
